Panthera Atrox

The Panthera Atrox is a recently-extinct lion species that was different from the African lion in a number of ways. First of all, it is black in coloration, and it is also about 1.3 times larger than the normal lion that we see in zoos. While this beast supposedly died out a few thousand years ago, black, maned mystery cats that are not uncommonly seen in the midwestern USA hint that this animal may still exist. The mystery cats that are seen usually appear in forested areas, though they do appear on the plains, and some have claimed that these creatures have taken farm animals from them. Due to the distinct appearance and large size of these cats, the Panthera Atrox is the most likely suspect.
