Kongamato is a beast native to the Congo rainforest in Africa. The Kaondi tribe has known of it for years, and they have identified it as resembling a pterodactyl. It is red in coloration, and the size of a large bird. The name "Kongamato" means "breaker of boats," which fits this creature since it supposedly attacks watercraft. There are two main theories about this cryptid. The first states it is another remnant prehistoric organism, like the Mokele-Mbembe and the Emela-Ntouka. It greatly resembles a ramphorynchus, so this is a possibility. The second theory states that the Kongamato is an unidentified species of large bat, similar in dimensions to the flying fox. Creatures like the Kongamato are seen throughout central Africa, and all who claim to have seen it or been attacked by it (mostly natives) have drawn it as resembling a pterosaur. If the Kongamato is indeed a leftover prehistoric beast, its existance supports the "lost world" hypothesis dealing with the Congo as a place where mesozoic creatures survive.
